The Environment Agency is investigating an illegal waste site that has been shut down near Hinckley in Leicestershire off the A47 Leicester Road. The dumped waste was discovered on 5 August 2026.
Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council and Leicestershire Police acted to close the site and prevent further environmental damage. The Environment Agency is now leading the investigation.
Appeal for information
The Environment Agency is asking anyone with information to come forward. They are specifically seeking dash cam footage, mobile phone footage, or CCTV recordings that may help the investigation.
The public is also being urged to report any suspicious activity in the region, including tipper lorries, skip lorries, or articulated lorries entering derelict sites or fields. Illegal waste sites have appeared near dual carriageways, motorways, farms, and woodland areas.
