Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council has granted planning permission for a major regeneration project that will replace the former Peggs Close flats in Earl Shilton with new council homes.
The site, previously occupied by three blocks of flats dating back to the 1970s, will be transformed into a mixed development of one-bedroom flats and two and three-bedroom family homes. The new homes will be designed to modern standards and built to be energy-efficient.
Background to the project
The council decided to regenerate the site rather than continue investing in the ageing accommodation. All existing residents were rehoused with council support, and the former buildings were demolished to make way for the new development.
Michael Mullaney, Executive Member for Housing at the Borough Council, said the approval marks a significant step forward for Earl Shilton. "This new development will provide modern, energy-efficient homes that people can be proud to live in, while helping us meet local housing demand and investing in the future of our communities," he said.
What happens next
Construction is expected to begin in January 2027.
