Four new electric vehicle charging points will be installed at Hinckley Leisure Centre car park, with work starting on Monday 21 September. The project is expected to take around six weeks to complete.
The new charging hub will include four solar-powered electric vehicle charging points, with two of these in accessible bays for disabled users. A section of the leisure centre car park will be temporarily unavailable during the installation, and there will be a short period of total closure.
Parking advice during works
Visitors to the leisure centre are advised to allow extra time for parking while the improvements are carried out. Leisure centre users are encouraged to plan ahead and consider using nearby town centre car parks if the leisure centre car park is busy. Members with car park permits are reminded that these are also valid in Castle Car Park.
Part of county-wide initiative
The Electric Vehicle Solar Canopy Charging Hub is part of a county-wide initiative to expand access to electric vehicle charging infrastructure across Leicestershire. The project has been funded through the Government's Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) Fund, which supports local authorities in delivering the charging network needed to meet growing demand for electric vehicles.
Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council already provides 46 EV charging points across its car parks in Hinckley, Earl Shilton, Market Bosworth and Barwell. Details are available on the council's website, which also has a full list of town centre car parks.
Councillor Stuart Bray, Council Leader, said: "These new charging points are another important step in building the infrastructure residents and visitors need as more people have or switch to electric vehicles."
