A free blacklight art exhibition called Ultra Vibrant will open at the Atkins Gallery in Hinckley from 19 October until 13 November 2026. The exhibition features glowing artworks displayed under UV light.
During half-term week (19–23 October), younger visitors can create their own blacklight-inspired artwork using black paper and fluorescent paint sticks. Glowing bracelets will be available while stocks last.
New Gallery Capabilities
New lighting additions to the Atkins Gallery, funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, have enabled the venue to explore different types of exhibitions. Music students from North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College's Hinckley Campus have been commissioned to create a custom exhibition soundtrack based on the exhibition concept.
Local Artists Involved
Participating local artist Mary Dennis said the exhibition posed a challenge as she typically works in acrylic paint. "The neon paints were very different," she said. "I am very grateful for the opportunity to be involved in this exhibition. In the future I'll be able to use the neon colours to enhance my work."
Fellow artist Vee Price created a work called the Happy Spaceman using spray paint to depict a galaxy on canvas. "I created the Happy Spaceman as a means of escape," Price said. "Using neon colours adds a lot more fun to my process."
